Joseph Roberts, Past President

Joe Roberts, NCSP, currently works as a school psychologist in Las Vegas, NV.  His career in public education goes back to earning his Post Bach teaching credentials from the University of Arizona, and he earned his B.S. from ASU.  Along the way, he taught within public education at various grade levels.  He earned an M.S. in Educational Administration and worked as an Assistant Principal before coming to his senses and pursuing school psychology.  Joe then earned his Ed. S. from UNLV and began doing what he loves most and that is working as a school psychologist with students, teachers, and school administrators.

Personally, Joe has two boys, ages 11 and 14, and he is very involved with their extracurricular activities (baseball, football and archery).  When he is not involved with his boys, Joe enjoys volunteering his time to promote the profession of school psychology.

Jasmine Mitchell, Secretary

Jasmine Mitchell, NCSP, currently works as a school psychologist in the Clark County School District.  Prior to graduating with her Ed.S. degree from the UNLV school psychology program in 2013, Jasmine was an elementary school teacher for nine years. The classroom teaching experience has given her multiple experiences and perspectives that she brings to the field of school psychology. A Masters degree in Education, earned from George Mason University in 2006, has also broadened her knowledge base of the field of education.  On a personal level, Jasmine enjoys hiking, camping and spending time with her family. Watching her 20 month son learn and grow, as well as preparing for a second child in September keeps her on her toes.

Michael Rube, Social Director

[The following biography was submitted by NVASP INSIDER reporter, Lightner Witmer, Jr.]

Michael Rube, old school psychologist, graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University, the only legitimate university in that state.  Mr. Rube remarked, “Several of the NVASP board members obtained their undergraduate degrees from ASU but unfortunately, our secretary went to a college on the wrong side of the tracks.”  Following several years as a first grade teacher in Phoenix, Michael graduated from UNLV’s school psychology program in 2007.  “UNLV was an alluring choice” said Rube, “as they have the only competitive basketball team in the southwest.”  Previous to embarking upon a career in education, Mr. Rube worked in retail management for a drug store chain followed by direct sales to major grocers: “At 21 years old, I was the youngest store manager in the 600-store chain.”  Unfortunately, two years later, the chain was broken up and sold.  “I’m not sure if there was a relationship between my promotion and the chain going belly-up”, remarked Rube.  “At UNLV, I learned about correlation but I’m still not sure if .8 is a strong correlation or not.”  As a school psychologist, Mr. Rube is focused on student mental health and group counseling.  “Sometimes I can’t believe that I actually get paid to make distressed student’s smile--that sales background came in handy.”  During his leisure time, Mr. Rube enjoys motorcycle touring, off-roading, golf, and shooting.  Rube responded, “After she saw a photo of my motorcycle on California’s scenic HWY 1, my supervisor wrote that ‘a person who rides a motorcycle isn’t a lost cause, but a cause looking for a little lost.’”  “I thought her statement was quite intuitive given the caseloads of most school psychologists”, said Rube.  “If my bio makes even one school psychologist in Nevada laugh then my mission as social director has been accomplished…”

{Editor’s note: “old school psychologist” reads as, “old school, psychologist”}
